Our land, Fossacesia, is the starting point for the Giro d'Italia 2023, scheduled to begin on 6 May 2023. The Giro d'Italia is one of the most prestigious cycling races and attracts top sportsmen from all over the world. It is a 21-stage race that covers a distance of over 3,500 kilometres and takes place over a period of three weeks, and is known for its challenging routes, steep climbs and thrilling finishes.
Fossacesia thus becomes the protagonist of the tour and will see the Costa dei Trabocchi brought to the fore, a splendid stretch overlooking the Adriatic Sea with jagged cliffs, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. In addition to the Via Verde, the cycle path on which the time trial of the Giro d'Italia 2023 will take place, it is known for its trabocchi, traditional fishing machines that date back to the Middle Ages. These unique structures, made of wood and built on stilts, allow fishermen to fish in shallow waters without the need for boats which represent an important part of the local cultural heritage and are a must-see attraction.
The imposing Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere, a Benedictine monastery dating back to the 11th century, will also be a protagonist. The abbey is perched on a hill overlooking the sea and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside, one of the region's most important historical and cultural landmarks.
We are proud and enthusiastic to host such a great event in our territory, certain that the 'caravan' will also appreciate the gastronomic excellence that Ursini is proposing to them these days and carefully and passionately exporting all over the world.
